justice- the lightning thief

while reading my book "the lightning thief", i thought about justice in many different ways. first of all, theres this kid named percy, who is the child of posiedon, on of the big three. by this i mean he is the son of one of the most powerful greek gods, this means that he is constantly attacked by monsters because of his powerful smell (all half-gods have it). the thing is, that the three great greek gods made a pact after world war two, that they would not have anymore children beacause of tha enourmous amount of trouble they cause witht their powers. the injustice here is that percy has already comitted a crime beacause posiedon broke the rules, he is a criminal just for being alive. so now, all the other gods want to kill him. this is injustice beacause it is unfair that percy has to pay the price for what his father did. it is also unfair because percy hasnt really done anything wrong, he didnt even know that he was a half blood until he turned thirteen.

another injustice in this book is not targeted at just percy, but all the half gods in general. the thing is that there is a camp that all half bloods must go to if the want to train to learn to fight off the monsters on your own. once you arrive at thge camp you are either undetermined (your godly parent hasnt claimed you yet) or determined(you have been claimed). the injustice here is that some campers stay undetermined all their life because their godly parent forgot that they sired a child  and they forget about their own child.

this scenario makes me think about injustice in the real world, more specifically.. orphans. some orphans are never claimed their entire life. imagine what it must be like to live a lihout anyone to comfort you or help you in rough times. very unfair. a tre example of injustice...

archetypes entry- freak the mighty

the quest : freaks imaginative quests to save damsels in distress and slaydragons
the task : max has a task, it is fill up the journal frek gave him with all of their adventures
the loss of innocence: max is definetly a maturing story, from being a clueless "kicker" with no freinds to being rather intellegent lad with a friend who faceds his fear (his father)

the hero : the hero in this particular tale would have to be max. max saved loretta, only to be captured by his father, then be rescued by freak. max is also the hero because he is the one who carries freak on his shoulders, protecting him
the mentor :  definatly freak. freak is always guiding max: with his vocabulary and his life
the shadow: to me there are two shadows (1) maxs' dad and (2) freaks approaching death

archetypes entry- charolettes web

The archetype of task:
charolette has a very important task. and that is to save wilburs life. charolette is the mentor to wilbur and in a way she is also the hero of the book even though wilbur is the main charactar, so i guess she is the sidekick. charolette is a mentor and friend because she teaches wilbur most of the things he knows, she is also like a mother always looking out for him and watching over him. charolette took ferns place as all of these things when she met wilbur. from there fern barely visited, and didnt baby wilbur anymore, so charolette took over wilbur.

connecting annotations: charolettes web

" A spider can produce several kinds of thread. She uses a dry, tough thread for foundation lines, and she uses sticky thread for snare lines-the ones that catch and hold insects"- E.B.Ehite "intruding"(pg 93)

there are several moments in the book such as this quote when where E.B.White "intrudes" and tells us some facts about spiders either directly or through charolette. one example of such a moment other than this qoute is when charolette tells wilbur the names of her eight legs. i think that the reason that e.b.white does this is to give the audience insight on the real habits and nature of spiders, not just fictional charlotte who can talk. another reason that i think e.b.white does this is beacause of her love of spiders and their beauty. the reason i think this is beacuse when my ela teacher read aloud to us from a book called " charolettes web annotated" it had all these pictures and research about spiders. the reason this is important is because this is what adds a spark of non- fiction to this fiction book. it is what merges reality to the creativeness of the fiction world.

Expanding annotations: charlottes web

" There are a lot of things Wilbur doesn't know about life, he's really a very innocent little pig. He doesn't even know what's going to happen to him around christmastime; he has no idea that Mr.Zuckerman and Lurvy are plotting to kill him." - goose (pg 40)
when the goose htinks this out loud, it made me realize that she was right... wilbur was clueless about many things. fern and/or charolotte always fiull him in on whats going on. come to think of it... wilbur always has someone to take care of him, wether its fern at home or charloette command everyone to help him on the farm. i wonder if wilbur could even do anything or survive on his own? lets see.... if fern werent there to save wilbur when he was born, wilbur would be dead. if the goose didnt shout to wilbur where to run, wilbur would have been tackled fiercly insted of being lured by food. if the lamb hadn't told wilbur that he was about to be killed on christmas, he wouldve died b/c charlotte coundn't help him.  so i think wilbur owes his life to pretty much everyone but himself.
